Restaurants and Cafes in Split Croatia

By visiting Split you have a chance to taste various specialties such as ‘fish on the grill, cooked lamb, brudet…’ As you search on where to dine, the category titled ‘Traditional restaurants’ greatly encompasses a range of Croatian restaurants with rich, traditional, old homemade meals.

We recommend these restaurants..

Restaurant "Uje Oil Bar"

Dominisova 3, 21000 Split

Located on the corner of intersecting alleyways in an (until now) little traversed corner of the Palace precinct, Uje is filled with the kind of solid wooden furniture that makes it feel like a welcoming farmhouse kitchen. Shelves packed with jars of wholesome-looking preserves serving to bolster the homely feel. The menu changes according to what’s in season and includes many of the more old-fashioned things in the traditional Dalmatian repertoire – fish soups, dishes with beans and pulses, and much more besides. You can also dunk your bread in various olive oils – the nearby islands are famous for producing highly individual blends.

"Figa food bar"

Ul. Andrije Buvine 1, 21000 Split

Figa Food Bar is without doubt the funkiest one-stop going out spot in the palace. It is a cafe-cum-food bar in which salads, risottos, sandwiches and daily specials join the customary roster of coffee, cocktails and rakija.

The location itself – set at the bottom of a stepped street with benches and cushions set out on the stairs – is enough to ensure that Figa still retains the old Puls magic. Most of the action remains outside, especially in the evening – although the interior, mixing ancient stone walls with smart modern furniture, is a calm and comfortable place in which to confront Figa’s new lunchtime-friendly personality.

Konoba "Korta"

Poljana Grgura Ninskog 3, 21000 Split

A small enclosed piazza that almost feels like a private courtyard, Poljana Grgura Ninskog is one of the cult spots of Split’s Palace precinct, hidden from outsiders but a regular short-cut for locals heading from Silver Gate to Golden Gate. Korta is a soothing restaurant that mixes Dalmatian tradition with modern culinary style. There’s a good balance on the menu between fish, meat and pasta. Korta is one of the few places in Split to serve San Servolo, the delicious beer crafted by a boutique brewery in Istria.

Restaurant "Bokeria"

  Cosmijeva ulica 2, 21 000 Split

Bokeria is a combination of a bar, tavern and restaurant, located in the space known as the “Mikačić’s store”. It's a tapas-bar in Dalmatian way. Bokeria is run by a Croatian masterchef Dino Galvagno and offers delicious cold starters, appetizing first courses, savory pastas, exquisite main courses and tasty seafood meals. Highlights would be beefsteak prepared in a dip of Mediterranean aromatic herbs and tuna/shark chops on a spit garnished with green beans and bacon. Do not hesitate to order more than one course because this tavern is in the middle category according to the prices while its quality definitely is ranked superb.

Pizzeria “Galija“

Tončićeva 12 21 000 Split

“Galija” (eng. Galley), a little pizzeria in the center of Split near Prokrative, serves without doubt the best pizzas in town, as well as delicious pasta dishes and a range of salads. The menu features as many types of pizza as you'd find in an Italian pizzeria, with few pages of different varieties. It is very popular among the local residents and tourists and frequently gets overcrowded. The dining room is decorated both traditional and informal; heavy wooden tables and benches and a large brick oven.  Also, an annex to the indoor part, you will find tables outside, where you can eat and enjoy some fresh air. One of the best things about Galija is the service; really friendly and helpful. If you want to have a great pizza in a nice, cosy atmosphere, Galija is the right place for you.

Konoba Trattoria “Bajamont”

Bajamontijeva 3 21 000 Split

Restaurant Trattoria Bajamonti, really busy in the summer, better known as a restaurant "Ispod ure", located near the famous sundial next to "Pjaca" (the main square in Split). Specialties of the Trattoria Bajamonti stand in seafood dishes and home-made food, for which you can buy groceries every day at the fish market or the green market. Since the dishes provided by this restaurant are brilliantly made, fresh from the market, meat is rarely ordered in here. However, besides the seafood, you can order authentic local dishes. Special authentic atmosphere of the town and the personal touch of this restaurant is a huge selling point, which always meet the expectations of customers. For all these reasons, tourists and locals are very glad to stop by and have a nice meal.

Konoba “Fife”

 Trumbićeva obala 11, 21 000 Split

Located in the city center, near the sea, Fife has to offer local dishes for the best price ever! The atmosphere of this tavern is quite like a regular household, relaxed and definitely Dalmatian - informal, whether you are sitting surrounded by a bunch of tourists or having infiltrated in an opposite side of an old married couple’s large table. At Fife, you will feel like you were on a family reunion of some great family in Split, so you will also be treated like that. Do not get confused with arrangement of this restaurant and if you need to wait, order a few ‘rakija’ shots as an appetizer, even standing outside the front door. No one will be looking funny at you. All in all, if you want to enjoy a completely unpretentious meal, to eat something delicious and homemade in Split, for very small money, in Fife you will get everything you need.

Restaurant “Noštromo”

Kraj Sv. Marije21 000 Split

Split is, besides historica, also a sea town with a long tradition of great seafood restaurants. One of them Is “Noštromo”, a small restaurant situated in Split’s Old Town, by the fish market. There’s excellent offer of refined wines to accompany the fish specialties and other imaginative meals prepared by an award winning chef.

Konoba (eng. Tavern)” Varoš” (named by one of the oldest parts of Split) is a traditional Dalmatian tavern, with a fishing themed interior, placed in a small alley near Marmontova street. Here you can order meat or octopus made under grill (“ispod peke”), “pašticada”, or seafood risottos. Their wine list is also very extensive, making this a good choice for wine lovers.
